The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is in charge of enforcing the environmental laws of the State.

GIS is used to manage State lands, manage water quality, update waste water permits, leverage other public and private geographic date, etc.

I utilize GIS to update the flood maps. Working with our hydrologists and contracors we are able to update and reformat to comply with FEMA standards.

Last year I had the chance to work with the GIS Corps down in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina.
