Concordia Yawl Lotus

Concordia
Yawl #15, she was built by Abeking and Rasmussen using wood hidden
from the Nazis by sinking it in swamps near the yard. Shipped to the
Concordia Company in Padanaram, MA, she sailed New England as
Skylark. She found her way to the west coast about 20 years ago,
where she was sailed extensively including two roundings of Vancouver
Island. In the early ‘90’s she began a ten year rebuild,
finally seeing daylight again shortly before her 50th year.
Everything about Lotus was carefully considered… not
to meet any racing rule or marketing niche, but to sail with beauty
and athleticism. She is has many fixtures and details specifically
developed and fabricated for the Concordia yawl. Designed in the
1930’s by Waldo Howland and Raymond Hunt, she was the personal
expression of two very experienced and talented sailors who wanted to
please no one but themselves and the wind. We have tried to keep her
as originally built, modifying only rig and sail inventory. We are
grateful for her patience as she shares her experience with us.
Thursday sail information
