Born with multiple birth defects, one of which left her unable to run and play with other children, Nemia discovered art at an early age. Hip surgery at age six was a blessing. After surgery, her love of art continued to be encouraged by her parents and the rest of her family. Her sister Verdell (also an artist) spent countless hours helping Nemia to refine her drawing skills. Her brother Beal gave Nemia her first set of oil paints when she was a teenager. Another of Nemia's birth defects left her with only one arm. Nemia strives, always, to not let this hold her back in any way.
After a bout with invasive cancer in 1987, which left her unable to have children, Nemia came face to face with the reality that life is very fragile, tenous, and short. With this in mind she decided to devote herself full time to painting. Within 6 months of this decision, this life choice brought her to her first poster publication, with world-wide distribution.
Each piece is created with love and devotion. She works with each painting, giving each as much time as is needed to make it the best that it can possibly be. In a sense, her paintings have taken the place of the children she longed to have. They are brought up to travel as far as possible in the world with Nemia's preparation of love, caring attention to the smallest details, and just plain, long hours and hard work, to carry them.
Now cancer free and continually learning new techniques and experimenting with new mediums, Nemia is both her own teacher and student. Her latest experiments can be seen right here on this web page, where she acts as its creative authority. She paints scenes that cannot be captured with a camera - scenes from her own heart and active imagination.
Many of Nemia's works are personal statements. Her works are thought provoking, depicting and inducing emotions, with an overall feeling of serenity and calmness.
About her work, Nemia says: "My paintings allow the viewer to gaze into the peaceful world I enter, while creating the images. It's wonderful when others see the care and detail. More importantly, I hope that they can feel the tranquility."
Nemia's images can be seen published in many forms around the globe.
